A large manufacturing company are now looking for an Engineering Manager

to join their team.

Engineering Manager – Overview

To ensure that the engineering services provided to the mill are of the highest standard, within a set budget spend and with engineers, technicians and supervisors who are well motivated and engaged in their duties. To foster a culture of performance excellence within the Engineering Team and set a strategy to achieve excellence.

Engineering Manager – Responsibility

1.1 Health & Safety

To provide a safe working environment for all employees and promote site safety through education of employees and creation and execution of safety plans. To assist in setting, agreeing and implementing the company safety policy at the functional level. Develop and maintain a Departmental training plans to ensure all employees are working safely and to current methods and procedures.

1.2 Engineering Budgets and Strategic Plans

To develop, execute and deliver on an engineering budget covering all aspects of operating performance targets. Ensure budget targets are met in respect of Engineering performance – unplanned downtime, planned downtime and engineering spend. As a member of the Mill Management Team help to decide upon the strategic development of the company and contribute towards the implementation of that strategy in accordance with delegated responsibilities. To develop department strategies to improve machine availability.

1.3 Performance

Ensure that all key engineering operating factors are being met on an annual, monthly and daily basis. That all performance information is correctly reported to ensure accurate accounts are made. To develop and implement KPIs which focus on reducing costs and material usage whilst increasing productivity and quality.

1.4 Motivation and Communication

To identify and promote the necessary change culture to ensure well trained and motivated personnel are selected to achieve best performance by identifying all training needs of the engineering staff so as to achieve the best performance of which each is capable, thereby also fulfilling the requirements of their respective jobs.

1.5 Operations

To work alongside all departments to direct the maintenance team to identify and implement any modifications that will improve the Mills’ profitability and productivity.

Encourage new ideas to be developed and ensure they are implemented efficiently. To Introduce Lean Manufacturing Techniques to improve problem solving.

Ensure that via carefully scheduled maintenance and prompt rectification of failures, that machine downtime does not exceed budgeted levels.

1.6 Materials

Ensure the most effective use of all materials is maintained, by maintaining good monitoring and control procedures.

1.7 Projects

Conduct discussions, which identify projects to improve the efficiency of the paper machine. Develop and obtain approval for an expenditure budget for each project. Thereafter regularly review the overall programme and allocate resources to achieve completion on time and within agreed expenditure.

1.8 Continuous Improvement

Work alongside the Continuous Improvement Leader to support problem solving, improvement projects and site development.

Engineering Manager - job requirements:

The ideal candidate must come from the manufacturing industry as a Engineering Manager. You will also have the following skills, qualifications and experience:

  • Must have previous experience of continuous improvement techniques.
  • You will be educated to degree level or equivalent in Electrical Engineering. A relevant HND qualification is also desirable.
  • Good leadership skills combined with excellent communication skills
  • Strong team-work ethic with ability motivate others
  • Creative, innovative
  • Analytical problem-solver
  • Ability to set SMART targets
  • Displaying a flexible attitude with a willingness to embrace new ways of thinking
  • Entrepreneurial
  • Production experience in a continuous process environment
  • Experienced in manufacturing maintenance, ideally skilled in paper manufacturing equipment.
