International Health and Safety Advisor

Location: Herefordshire

Salary: Circa £45k - £50k

A global manufacturing company are now looking for a Health and Safety Advisor to travel to their various sites across the globe.

Purpose of the position - International Health and Safety Advisor

The Divisional Health & Safety Specialist. This is a staff function placed under the Global Operations Director and is involved in policy deployment & maintaining safety standards, legal compliance and management of the Integrated Management System (IMS) across the business. This functionally supports operations management in all manufacturing locations globally.

International Health and Safety Advisor - Role expectations

  • Implement uniform H&S risk assessment and safe working procedures (SSW) across all business units.
  • Evaluate accident investigation procedures, root-cause analysis and ensure corrective actions are appropriate and implemented effectively.
  • Analyse & report on divisional KPIs and enforce standardised and timely reporting of incidents and monthly data for Div / Group.
  • Ensure use of divisional standardised document systems is in place and utilised.
  • Monitor Internal IMS audit schedule, workplace inspection, layered audit frequency, techniques and timely CAPA close-out.
  • Conduct improvement programs audits in support of divisional roadmap.
  • Oversee integrated management systems (IMS) obligations and ensure uniformity in implementation.
  • Expand the implementation of ISO Management Systems in many recent acquisitions, with emphasis on ISO 14001, ISO45001- and 50001.
  • Liaise with regional management on matters impacting legal compliance or conformance with applicable standards.
  • The company expects uniform H&S practice at all its operations globally.
  • Make recommendation on training & development of divisional EHS personnel.
  • Ensure to the best of your ability that the corporate image is not tarnished or compromised.
  • To fulfil these responsibilities, the divisional H&S specialist has the authority to intervene in aspects of the business as described below:
  • On legal compliance matters or where serious shortcomings in H&S provisions are identified, to intervene with processes to rectify such non-conformance.
  • Authorised to stop or change any process that may cause harm to persons or place the organisation in breach of its legal obligations.
  • Maintain a direct reporting line to divisional employees with a dedicated HSE / MS role.
  • Implement policy and procedures in the interest of a unified approach to divisional HSE management.
  • Take a leading role in Divisional steering committee meetings, improvement projects and best practice forums.

Personal attributes & Qualifications - International Health and Safety Advisor

The ideal candidate must be a Health and Safety Advisor. You will also have the following skills, qualifications and experience:

  • Hold a recognised health and safety qualification such as NEBOSH, NCRQ or NVQ]
  • Member of IOSH and working towards CMIOSH
  • Have a strong Manufacturing background
  • ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 Management experience
  • Ideally managed multi-sites with international experience
  • Ideally speaking multiple languages but not essential
  • Willing to travel
  • The ability to show understanding and empathy for social and cultural differences in various regions of global operations.
  • Good skills of persuasion and communication, to ensure regional management understand the potential legal and corporate impacts of nonconformity through their operations.
  • To urgently yet tactfully approach legal breaches or situations of noncompliance, and to resolve them with consultation and in cooperation with divisional line management.

Travel

  • Division has 41 manufacturing plants globally.
  • There will be an expectation for frequent travel to provide assistance to plant managers and operations personnel at most of our sites.
