Health, Safety & Environmental Officer

Location: Barnsley

Salary: Circa £36k

A large engineering company are now looking for a Health, Safety & Environmental Officer to join their team.

Health, Safety & Environmental Officer – Overview

To develop the company’s health and safety, environmental and logistics standards, systems, processes facilities and product engineering. Successful implementation of lean manufacturing, continuous improvement and cost reduction. Effective communication training and awareness and auditing with the complete team.

Responsible and accountable for ownership and project management of all incidents and accident investigations through to implemented and proven preventative solutions, to minimise / prevent the risk of reoccurrence. Including hands on implementation where applicable.

Best practice joint and amalgamated systems and procedures to be universally implemented as one common standard across all sites. Promotion of centralised records where applicable. Auditing of alternative group sites.

Management of health and safety training, including manual handling, forklift and first aid training / updates / records.

Health, Safety & Environmental Officer – Responsibility

Structure, develop and maintain effective and comprehensive health and safety management standards and procedures in accordance with Health and safety management system BS EN18001. Audit and sustain compliance requirements.

Structure, develop and maintain effective and comprehensive Environmental management standards and procedures in accordance with Health and safety management system BS EN14001. Audit and sustain compliance requirements.

Co ordinate and improve all health and safety and environmental practices and controls, including structuring and maintaining COSHH assessments, Risk assessments, Manual handling assessments, Accident reports, Near miss report investigation, RIDDOR, Fire risk assessments and maintenance of safety and environmental related equipment / plant etc.

Structured analysis, control and development of the logistics / stores and material handling methods, layout, equipment, process / work instructions and packaging specifications / supply conditions.

Value stream mapping of the supply chain, from receipt to availability for assembly.

Assessment, financial justification and implementation / commissioning of health and safety, environmental and logistics facilities, plant and equipment to develop and improve the business.

Lean manufacturing. Facilitate practices through 5’ s, single piece flowline production, removal of the 7 wastes, support of single piece flowline production, SMED, Cellular manufacture and poke yoke. Value stream mapping of the supply chain, from receipt to availability for assembly.

Health, Safety & Environmental Officer – Responsibility - job requirements:

The ideal candidate must come from the manufacturing industry as a Health, Safety & Environmental Officer – Responsibility. You will also have the following skills, qualifications and experience:

  • Hold a NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent in occupational Health and Safety
  • Member of IOSH
  • Ideally have a Logistics or Distribution background
  • Working towards NEBOSH Diploma
