Salary: £40k-£45k

Purchaser - Job Role:

  • To effectively source new suppliers for new parts and new services ensuring compliance with rail standards
  • Purchase parts for planned demand through MRP System. Prepare/issue requests for proposals, quotations, purchase orders to suppliers in accordance with operating procedures liaising with the Quality Department where required
  • Support complex/high value negotiations by gathering and interpreting data from existing and potential suppliers and by participating in internal customer or supplier meetings
  • Drive/direct critical activities with suppliers to ensure quality, delivery for product/services achieve customer requirements, whilst maintaining effective supplier relations
  • Identify cost saving opportunities, implement plans to achieve and manage through to fruition
  • Liaise with internal customers, suppliers and other departments to chase up / advise on progress of activities to achieve on-time delivery to the required specification
  • Be an integral part of project teams delivering complex rail projects
  • Liaise with our parent company in Germany regularly as they are the main supplier of parts
  • Carry out routine purchasing of day to day consumables as well as Fixed Asset Capital purchasing.

Purchaser – Person Requirements:

  • HNC/HND/Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing processes or Business Administration, desirable but not essential. Ideally will have or be studying towards CIPS qualifications
  • Must have engineering/manufacturing background
  • High level of PC literacy; especially in Excel.
  • Experience of an ERP system essential, Navision ERP system desirable (but not essential as training will be given)
  • Experience of initiating, negotiating, finalising and formalising product procurement
  • Knowledge of value chain management, as well as procurement and supply management principles and practices
  • Must possess a strong customer service orientation and sense of urgency
  • Ability to travel throughout the UK with some European travel
  • Commitment and ability to work accurately under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Good analysis and communication (written and oral) skills essential
